During this holiday, people mostly celebrate with their friends and family members and it is common to light fireworks into the sky. Most stores are closed however railway stations, airports, and some stores in Paris will remain open.

History

New Year's Day was originally celebrated on March 15th on the old Roman Calendar. Later on the holiday was moved to January 1st in 153 BCE.
