Parishioners in Church

The next upcomming Lent is celebrated/ observed on Wednesday February 14th, 2018. Lent is a Christian annual period that starts on Ash Wednesday lasting for 40 days representing the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness. This 40 day period for Christians is a time to reflect, fast, and give penance in preparation for the resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday.

Celebration\ Observance

Christians during this period (40 days) will refrain from pleasures like drinking, smoking, sex and other activities to more purify their spirit. Many will also fast and attend church services throughout this period of sacred Christian days.

History

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday the day before Easter Sunday with 46 total days between these two days. Christians do not fast on Sundays so Lent or "Lenten Fast" is only 40 days because the Sunday's during Lent are not fasting days.
