Holy Saturday or often referred to as Black Saturday in the Philippines is the day after Good Friday and the day before Easter Sunday. This day commemorates the day that Jesus Christ lay in his tomb prior to his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
This day is a national holiday with some government and businesses closed.
Hundreds of years ago the Spanish came to the Philippines and brought their Christian religion. Over time the Filipino population gave up its pagan beliefs and took on Christian beliefs and those of Holy week including Holy Saturday.
